In The Mix: How MeetMo powered TikTok's biggest live event ever.
When TikTok decided to throw their epic "In The Mix" music festival, they needed a solution as innovative as their platform. Enter MeetMo.io and production company Done and Dusted, who turned a regular livestream into a record-breaking digital event that wowed over 33.5 million viewers worldwide.
A spectacular success.
TikTok In The Mix, the first-of-its-kind live global experience on TikTok, smashed viewing records with over 33.5 million viewers enjoying the show. Held on Sunday, December 10, at Sloan Park in Mesa, AZ, the event drew a sold-out crowd of 17,000 and set a new record for the biggest LIVE event on TikTok, with 9.6 million viewers watching live.
Paul Hourican, Global Head of Music Partnerships & Programming at TikTok, said: "In The Mix was an awe-inspiring event where fans and artists came together to celebrate what we love about TikTok. The power of music discovery on our platform played out on stage. An event of this magnitude truly takes a village. Thank you to the amazing lineup of artists, our partners, the sold-out crowd in Arizona, and the record-breaking audience who watched around the world on TikTok."
A cultural celebration.
TikTok In The Mix was a five-hour music extravaganza celebrating the music, trends, and experiences our community enjoys every day. Created by award-winning director Hamish Hamilton and Done+Dusted, the event featured top musicians like Cardi B, Niall Horan, Anitta, Charlie Puth, Offset, and Peso Pluma. Special performances by Renée Rapp and rising stars from TikTok’s Elevate program, Isabel LaRosa, Kaliii, LU KALA, and Sam Barber, added to the excitement.
But the fun didn’t stop there. Disney+ and Hulu aired one-hour specials with highlights from the event, including Charlie Puth and Jungkook’s duet, Anitta and Peso Pluma performing “BELLAKEO” live for the first time, a surprise appearance from Shaq, and more.
TikTok In The Mix was co-produced by TikTok and GroupM Motion Entertainment and sponsored by Paramount and Coca-Cola.
Transforming live concert broadcasting.
The challenge was big: deliver an immersive, multi-angle concert experience that could seamlessly broadcast to TikTok Live, venue Jumbotrons, and streaming platforms Hulu and Disney Plus – all while keeping the intimate feel TikTok users love. The solution? A groundbreaking combo of Samsung S23 Ultra smartphones running MeetMo's Cam App, connected through 5G to their proprietary platform.
"Integrating over 20 mobile phones as live cameras directly into the broadcast truck was a game-changer," said a Done and Dusted representative. "It completely transformed our approach to live event production."
Technical wizardry meets creative vision.
What made this production truly remarkable was the minimal 16-frame delay achieved through MeetMo's MoLink Edge Compute technology. Less than the blink of an eye. This near-instantaneous transmission allowed producers to switch between camera feeds in real-time, creating a dynamic viewing experience that brought audiences closer to the action than ever before.
The innovative setup enabled:
- Seamless integration of audience and performer perspectives
- Real-time streaming to multiple platforms simultaneously
- Professional broadcast quality from mobile devices
- Simplified production workflow
Impact.
The six-hour livestream event didn't just break viewing records – it redefined what's possible in live event broadcasting. The production team achieved significant cost savings by eliminating the need for extensive on-site crews while actually expanding their creative capabilities. The success culminated in a special one-hour broadcast on Disney+ and Hulu, bringing the excitement to even more viewers.
A new standard in live production.
MeetMo.io's solution proved that the future of live event broadcasting doesn't require massive technical infrastructure. By leveraging smart devices and cutting-edge streaming technology, they've created a more agile, cost-effective approach to live production that doesn't compromise on quality.
"This event demonstrated that with the right technology partner, you can achieve unprecedented reach while maintaining an intimate connection with your audience," noted a MeetMo.io spokesperson. "We're proud to have helped TikTok make history."
The success of TikTok In The Mix shows how innovative technology can transform traditional broadcasting methods into something more dynamic, accessible, and engaging for the digital age. As streaming platforms continue to evolve, MeetMo.io's solution is ready to help creators and producers push the boundaries of what's possible in live event production.
